In classic Beach Ball Classic fashion, Scott County (Georgetown, KY) moved into the semifinal round with a 64-62 victory over Wheeler (Marietta, GA).
In a game that featured six ties and five lead changes in the second half, Scott County's (7-2) Chad Jackson secured the winning points at the free throw line. Jackson sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining to give the Cardinals a 64-62 lead.
Phil Taylor took the inbound pass for Wheeler (8-3) and dribbled the length of the court before missing a tear-drop floater from the left of the lane. Jackson grabbed the rebound and quickly passed downcourt to keep from getting fouled as the final horn sounded.
The free throws by Jackson capped a furious final two minutes of the second half. With 2:06 remaining, Scott County's Ge-Lawn Guyn tied the game at 60-60 on a driving layup. Tanner Shotwell then GAVE Scott County another lead with a layup with 0:23 on the clock. Wheeler's Phil Taylor tied the game one last time on a pair of free throws before Jackson's heroics of his own at the line ended the scoring.
Scott County was led by Guyn's 16 points while Shotwell added 16 points. Taylor, who will play collegiately for Isaah Thomas at Floriday International, paced Wheeler and led all scorers with 27 points.
