Daniel (Central, SC) advanced to the semifinal round of the consolation bracket with a 77-61 victory over Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, VA) at the 2009 Beach Ball Classic.
Bishop O'Connell (5-4) trailed by as many as 1 points in the first half but used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just one point at 44-43 with 12:23 remaining in the second half. The Knights toko their first lead since early in the first half at 50-49 on a Kendall Marshall 3-pointer with 8:45 on the clock.
Shaq Lawson regained the lead for Daniel (6-1) 1:02 later and the Lions never looked back. Lawson's layup was the start of a 13-1 run that would open a 62-51 cushion for Daniel with 4:46 remaining.
Daniel was led by Lawson's 23 points while Antonio Cannon added 21 points and six boards. D'Andre Hopkins, who will attend Clemson on a football scholarship, dished out a game-high nine assists.
Jordan Burgess came off of the bench to lead Bishop O'Connell with 16 points and nine rebounds. Larry Savage and Marshall, who will attend the University of North Carolina, chipped in 11 points each for the Knights.
