Joey Jerome's layup with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock gave Wheeler (Marietta, GA) a 54-53 victory over Nichols School (Buffalo, NY) at the 2009 Beach Ball Classic. The win moves the Wildcats (9-3) into the fifth place game on Thursday.
Phil Taylor missed a driving baseline jumper with five seconds remaining, but Wheeler's Jelan Kendrick grabbed the offensive rebound and passed to an open Jerome for the game winner. Nichols School called a timeout but could not get a shot off before the final buzzer.
Jelan Kendrick paced Wheeler (9-3) with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Jerome also posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
Nichols School (5-2) was led by Will Regan's 18 points and 15 rebounds. Sten Weir and Connor Vandegriff added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
