Photo provided by Digitalmagicphoto.comAll-American Jershon Cobb scored 24 points to lead Columbia (Decatur, GA) into the championship game of the 2009 Beach Ball Classic with a 55-51 victory over Cedar Hill (TX).

The Eagles (11-3) will take on the winner of the Bishop Gorman (NV)-Scott County (KY) meeting in the title game on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.  Cedar Hil (14-3) will take on the loser of that contest in the third place game.

Cedar Hill, which placed third in the 2003 BBC, looked ready to make its first BBC final in three appearances.  The Longhorns, trailing 26-23 early in the second half, used a 14-4 run to open a 39-30 advantage with 9:44 to play.

The Longhorns would stretch the lead to 10 before Columbia would make a push to get back into the game.  Jarmal Reid's free throw with 4:39 to play capped a 13-3 run to tie the game at 44-44 with 4:39 on the clock.

JerShon Cobb gained the first lead of the second half for Columbia with a pair of free throws with 4:23 to play.  Thomas Gipson made an old-fashioned 3-point play at the 3:13 mark to give Cedar Hill a 49-48 lead.

Cobb then game Columbia the lead at 50-49 on a 12-foot jumper with 2:37 to play.  The Eagles would connect on six free throws in the final minute to hold on for the victory.

Chris Grier and Jarmal Reid added 10 points each for the Eagles.  Cedar Hill was paced by Gipson's 21 poinst and eight rebounds.

Too bad! I was rooting for Cedar Hill, where my two nephews, Jason and Justin Bryan, played football many years ago, were in the playoffs against team led by LaDainian Tomlinson. Even many more years ago, my brother Stan Bryan was valedictorian at Duncanville High, just north of Cedar Hill. Duncanville won the BBC a couple of years ago. My parents lived in Cedar Hill the last thirty years of their lives. Cedar Hill has a well coached and well disciplined team. A fellow Texan from Abilene (brother of UT QB) will be in the football game on Saturday in Myrtle Beach. Abilene High, where I did my student teaching back in 1966, is ranked #5 in Rivals.com top 100 football teams. My fellow Texans, hope y'all are having a good time. Good luck for third place. Too bad Cedar Hill got cheated out of the game by the refs. 2 points called back because of a refs bad ruling, and offensive fouls called on Cedar Hill in the 2nd half, but called the other way on Columbia end. WAS BAD!!! Terrible that refs will do that to kids. Cedar Hill never got a 1 and 1 in second half.
