In a game that tied for the second lowest scoring game in the Beach Ball Classic's 29-year history, St. Edward (Cleveland, OH) scored a 34-29 victory over Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, VA).
With 7:53 to play in the first half, Bishop O'Connell's Maurice Williams pulled down a rebound off of a missed free throw by St. Edward's Ryan Angers. The Knights then held the ball at midcourt and were not closely guarded by the Eagles. The result was a running clock for the remainder of the half with no action. After 7:49 of no action, Kendall Marshall drove to the basket and hit a layup to give Bishop O'Connell a 15-14 lead at halftime.
A "normal" basketball game returned in the second half and St. Edward used a 12-0 run midway through the period to opena double digit lead. Trailing 20-19, the Eagles run left them with a 31-20 cushion on Delbert Love's 3-point basket with just 3:49 to play. St. Edward (5-2) sealed the victory by hitting 3-for-4 free throws in the final 34 seconds.
The game tied the 1985 meeting of Seton Hall Prep (NJ) and Crenshaw (CA) as the second lowest game in BBC history. Seton Hall Prep won that contest against then #2 ranked Crenshaw, ending Crenshaw's 38-game winning streak. The lowest scoring contest in the BBC's 29-year history came during the 1988 tourney when Marshall County (KY) defeated Griffin (GA) 30-26.
Kyle Pisco hit three early 3-point baskets and led St. Edward with nine points. Bishop O'Connell's Will Ferguson led all scorers with 10 points.
